About the Event

Lecture Outline:

The interaction between orthodontics and periodontics has always been an important one, especially true in recent years with an ever-increasing number of adult orthodontic patients. In adults, where periodontal health could potentially be compromised much more so than the ‘typical’ young orthodontic patient, it is that much more important to appropriately assess the periodontium so that we can achieve a more healthy and stable outcome.  There are many instances where the periodontium needs to be respected and considered when undertaking orthodontic movements.

This course will be very clinical in nature, using cases to illustrate the combined orthodontic/periodontic approach, including discussions on appropriate periodontal screening and/or treatment prior to orthodontics, exposure and bonding of impacted teeth, frenectomy, etc. Cases will also be shown on how the combined orthodontic/periodontic approach can help enhance the restorative outcome.
