Bio:
Dr. Vanessa Mendes, DDS, MSc, PhD, FRCD(C)
Dr. Mendes is an assistant professor, teaching stream, and the director of the graduate specialty training program in periodontics at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Toronto. She completed her specialty training with a Masters degree in Periodontology from the University of Toronto (2015) and is a board certified periodontist in Canada. She received her DDS degree from Universidade Federal de Uberlandia (Brazil), where she also completed a specialty training in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS). Her academic training includes a Masters degree in OMFS from Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP – Brazil) and a PhD degree from a combined program between UNESP and the University of Toronto.
She teaches periodontics and gross anatomy at both graduate and undergraduate levels. She is also the co-director and instructor of a continuing education implant residency program. Her research interests include dental education, tissue regeneration and mechanisms of peri-implant healing.
